Memory Lane
« on: April 01, 2010, 07:00:36 PM »
The world seemed unnaturally loud all of the sudden. The sounds of the trees swaying, birds singing, wind blowing...It was almost to much for her. Reine clutched the trunk of a slender birch tree,. knuckles white from the effort of keeping herself upright. The Queen didn't understand, one moment she'd been in her castle and the next...here she was in the middle of nowhere. Not to mention the beautiful but frightening feeling of being fully in control of her actions. The lovely woman was confused and frightened, wondering if this was all a terrible dream.

Slowly she slid down to the ground, her long multi-colored gown fluffing out around her. White hair curved down around her face where her English hood wasn't holding it back. These clothes would be familiar to anyone of this world as the regalia of the Queen of hearts as seen on various playing cards. To her it was utterly foreign, however she had more important things to consider than the change in outfit.

Reine shuddered softly, leaning against the tree, her eyes very slowly sliding closed. It seemed that in self defense of these worrisome changes in environment, Reine's body put her to sleep.

Faceless scowled, taking a drag on his cigarette and letting it out slowly. The smoke appeared to be sucked into the heavy fog around him, but he was the only one to see.
It had been a few days since he found the town and it had been foggy the entire time. Perhaps it would be more accurate to say that the fog was how he had stumbled upon the town in the first place. Not only could he not find any people, but escaping the town seemed impossible, as well. Every time he found the edge of the town and walked passed its borders, Faceless found that the fog was suffocatingly thick and he ended up back in the town. Despite walking in a straight line away from the buildings, he found himself turned around and back amongst the abandoned buildings.
Venting did no real good, though it did make him feel marginally better. So far, food was scarce and the male had been religiously rationing his cigarettes. As lucky as it was that he had just purchased a couple of new packs, they wouldn't last him too much longer.
The constant dampness was wearing on him, especially since he wasn't very fond of water in the first place. His tail and ears flicked almost constantly in irritation at the droplets of water that clung to them and his stitches felt weak and bloated. Because of his poor state, he was rather glad that he was alone lest he be subjected to the stale joke about holding himself together.
Oh, that wasn't to say that there wasn't anyone in the town, but all of them he had ever met were borderline zombies or hallucinating freak shows. Faceless would be glad to be rid of this place if he could just get out.
Pacing the borders of the town, Faceless growled softly, looking for any break in the barrier that kept him here. He was not pleased that he went from one cage to the next, though the jury was still out on whether one was worse than the other.
He almost didn't notice the woman sleeping under a tree until he was upon her.
"Geez, lady!" The living doll supposed that this would be another of those zombie-types, but it was dangerous to sleep outside in this place. Nudging her gently with his foot, he took another drag on his cigarette. "C'mon, wake up already!"

"Mm."

Reine slowly opened her eyes before screwing them shut again, a pounding headache had overtaken her. "What?" She whispered, holding her head for a moment before looking up at the person who'd woken her. "O-oh..." perhaps he could tell her where she was? She certainly wasn't in wonderland anymore. Reine clutched the tree again, slowly trying to pull herself upright with one hand.

"Wh-Where am I?"

"Not in Kansas, that's for sure," Faceless grumped, taking another drag on his cigarette as he observed the  woman. As odd as it was, she not only seemed out of it but also just a tad bit fearful. Of what, the living doll was unsure, but nonetheless the sense was there.
"What are you doing here, your highness?" The male was not up-to-date on what the latest fashions were, but he was fairly certain that what she wore was not common dress. Faceless didn't even know where this was, but she was the first one that he had found to not be a psychotic mess or a zombie, so he was willing to stick around and assist if possible.
Maybe she could get him out of this vexing limbo they found themselves in.

The Hatter's eyes were half closed, his body wobbled as he moved forward in deep thought. His new attire made him look a bit more 'normal' it seemed since people were not giving him strange looks anymore, expect for the ax he carried. He could still hear her voice whispering gently upon his ear guiding him where he needed to go.

"What else could I do, I'm so inspired by you...."

The Hatter's lips parted slowly so that more words could escape his lips, he had heard someone singing earlier that day.  A young maiden with white hair of struck by a single red mark upon her bangs. She was a strange one but something about that song had sent a shiver down his spine.

"Once I thought my innocence was gone, now I know... happiness goes on..."

Regardless of that, he continued to sing that same tune. Oh how he hopped to hold her, to hold her head so close against his chest; lifeless. Yes, as her red dress became stained with her blood making it a dark maroon. Smiling lightly the Hatter's foot hit a rock making him stumble and fall, one hand on the ground the other holding the ax tightly against the ground while the ax had gently embrace his shoulder allowing some of his own blood drop slowly toward the ground.

"Drop, drop...."

The Hatter whispered, before pushing himself up. He was near her now, he could feel the blood within him boiled. SHE had told him where he needed to go, grateful for it he was going to have to thank her soon as his ordeal was done.

As he continued to walk he began to hear soft muffles near, yes it sounded like music to his ears his ax began to move from side to side hitting the tears around making them rustle. The elegant tone of screams was so to drench the air as well as the bitter sweet smell of death. He hoped, it was that way at least.

"Long, live the God damn Queen..."

The Hatter let out a scream loud enough for the two figures to hear it, though they were a few feet away he could still smell the royal lineage in the one wearing the never forgettable dress.

"My sweet Queen! Long time no see!~"

The ax still moved from one side to the next, she seemed quiet and warned. Just like he was, being in the human world was not something wonderland characters were meant to stand. No, when they all returned home their lives will become more complicated... more painful. The hatter chuckled having troubles with holding up the ax still his aura emitted noting more then the desire to pierce through the woman before him.

Looking up, Faceless viewed the person who addressed the lady still sitting on the ground. He had be correct in assuming that this woman was royalty, but then again maybe it was just that crazy guy making the same assumptions he had even if it seemed that the axe-wielder actually recognized her.
"A visitor for Her Majesty," he mumbled, looking between the two, who were just staring and staring. Was there a pause button on time here or something?
If the guy really started in on the woman, what would he do? Queen or not, it was none of his business. She didn't really seem bad, but he hadn't heard her speak more than a few words, hadn't the chance to do more than that.
"Hello?" His voice was soft as if he didn't really expect a response.

Sashi giggled as he made his way to the Dangerous Place his creator warned him about and then sent him off to get. His master/daddy/maker had been snail mailing someone in the Dangerous Place about super special awesome ingredients for his spectacularly popular candy, but because of his job and school and the Hare Sato couldn't pick it up himself.

So he sent Sashi.

Arms out sideways but bent up at the wrist, the little redhead moved quickly through the forest, having left the trail an hour ago, and made 'radda radda' noises as he pretended to be a rubber ducky the flew through space to save his fleshy human from his Evil Uncle, who stole the toy from him.

"Go~o Acid Jet! Sizzle, sizzle, sizzle! Radda radda radda radda radda radda radda!" Bursting through a bush, he landed heavily on the other side just before running into something soft, solid, and idly swinging an axe. "A~ah! It's the Marshmallow Man! Will you help me reclaim my fleshy human, Marshmallow Man?!"

The person was tall and had a hat.

Sashi liked him already.

His eyes slowly shifted to look at the other strange wonderland like creature, his lips parted into a gentle smile as he took yet another step towards the Queen. Something inside of him throbbed perhaps it could be the fact that he had been fighting against wonderland for so long to keep his rights as the joker of all wonderland. Something, no someone was obtaining him and he needed to hurry, to kill before he went back.

"He--"

The Hatter blinked looking down to see what had interrupted his greeting, blinking he nodded at the little bright thing. Then looked up again head wobbling a little bit, yeah he needed to finish her off NOW.

The stranger had a definite 'unhinged' quality to him as he wobbled. Smiling vacantly at the child that had popped out of nowhere only encouraged that conclusion in his mind. Then again, where had that child come from?
The fog around them seemed to be slowly thickening, though there seemed to be no logical reason for it to be all of a sudden. Faceless took a few steps back - just to be safe - in case the man with the hat decided to charge the woman. There was not a single reason for him to get between the two, after all.
"Well, if that's all, then I'll just get out of your hair, shall I?" A few more steps back, Faceless's gaze flicked between the other three quickly to see what would happen even though he was determined to get out of there before any blood was spilled.

"Hat, hat, hat, hat," Sashi murmured to himself, hand lightly touching the man's pants as he circled him. The ax was easy enough to avoid since the hat-wearing man was definitely not very focused. "Hatta, Hatty, Hattra, Hatmah, Hatmeh, Hatteh, Hat, Hat, Hatter," he continued, adding a skip into his step as he followed the man.

After a moment, he stopped frowning, chin tucked against his chest as he thought. His lower lip jutted out just because of the position, but nonetheless it made it seem as if he were pouting, even if he wasn't.

He wasn't, really, just being childish as was very near the core of his existence. That was Tenshi's idea and something that Sato had to fight with every minute of every day.

"What's your na~ame?" The candy child asked in a sing-song voice after lifting his head and staring up at the man with the top hat inquiringly.

The Hatter looked back up at the doll like male and smiled tilting his head to the side allowing his hat to move back slightly. Bright blue eyes stared at the male for a while before the pale lips parted once again.

"You sir are not in my hair so why should yOu LeaVe a plAce whiCh yoU aRe not in?"

The male inquire before looking back down at the small child that was quite colorful, the questions this people asked were indeed quite fun, he missed his home kind of. He wasn't that far from the Queen and his dream to avenge his love was just a few feet away. That is if he knew that it was a few feet away, the male was really out of it. Wonderland was stopping the call meaning that the young people of wonderland left were suffering as well. He laugh slightly to himself.

"My name is.. Hat-- no... my name is Jade Hatterson"

The Hatter spoke softly.

"I wasn't sure if to start with my last or first"

"To make sure I don't accidentally end up there? I wouldn't want to be in your way," Faceless insisted, raising his paws in the classic gesture of proving innocence or at least having no weapons. Perhaps if he kept talking, the woman would snap out of whatever daze she was in?
"S-so, what brings you to this neck of the woods? There aren't that many people around here and now there are three aside from me in this little area. Kind of strange, isn't it? Eh heh heh." Babbling was one of his least favorite things to do and that is exactly what he ended up doing, causing a sick feeling to develop in his midsection. Where the hell was that woman's brain when in a situation such as this?!

"Mr. Hat," Sashi crowed, then tipped over into a cartwheel. Not stopping, the candy child ended up all the way over by the kitty doll boy.

"So, what's your name, Mr. Kitty?" The child ignored all the questions that were obviously superfluous when he asked his own question but was quickly distracted by the softly waving tail attached to the man. Reaching out his hand carefully, he touched it, eyes wide in awe and mouth open in the shape of an 'o'.

"Kitties are my favorite-ist!"

The Hatter took in a long breath, his head moving back as if in an attempt to hold on to something. His blue eyes almost sparkled at the thoughts that were now feeling his head. Hand latched tightly to the ax he was holding a while back well kind of holding. His eyes glared at the Queen, steps almost heavy towards her. She seemed quite out of it, that's all he needed. She never did care of what anyone else said or how they acted since they didn't matter to the royals, rather the red royals.

"Here, sweet Queen. Here Sweet, Sweet Queen."

Another step and the Hatter was back to 'normal' thankfully now he could move faster glancing at the kid and the cat he smiled.

"You know, this is my gift to her. Perhaps to someone more?"

Holding his ax up he slashed cutting part of her dress. Yet another slash and a little bit of the red liquid squirt from her leg. Screams, screams.

"I am called Faceless Ningyo, but just call me Faceless," he told the child, tail twitching irritably at being held still.

Truly, he wasn't impressed with his name, but any thoughts of changing it were lost quite quickly as if some hand had wiped it from the slate of his mind. He deeply suspected that it was his creator, the Doctor, but there was nothing he could do about it.

If he thought about it too much, he feared the madness it would bring, so with great effort he let it go, exhaled along with the smoke from his cigarette.

Hatterson's words were not reassuring and more than a little creepy. They must have some history together, he thought - or rather, hoped - since the man was so intent on her. At least, he wasn't just looking for anyone to behead.

Personally, Faceless really just wanted to get away from these kooks.

The Hatter blinked, the Queen seemed to be a bit shocked. Unable to speak was the Queen it seem but she didn't move much anymore. Perhaps it was the fear he had brought to her. She deserved it, no she more then deserved it. This was a payment a head for a head. one of his hands moved up to his hat unzipping it slowly. his hand moved it in a rather strange manner as the ax moved up once again. Pulling out a flower a Water Lily he smiled.

"Here Queen you might not remember her, but she has been waiting for this day as long as I"

The Hatter spoke in a rather dark yet happy tune. His eyes widen as did his grin and with a quick slash he cut off the Queen's head. It rolled down her body hitting the floor and it continued to roll to the Cat's feet. The Hatter's clothing was splashed with blood as was the Water Lily. Placing the delicate flower away he sipped his hat back up and slowly prosided to drop the ax. Moving one step closer to the body of the Queen he picked it up every so graciously and began to dance with it.

"Mr. Kitty is Faceless?" Sashi barely had time to wonder aloud before he was splashed with something warm and red. Looking over, he found that the lady on the ground had lost her head and there was cherry jam everywhere. "Ja~am! I love jam!"

He hurried over to her, tripping over the head and falling. Turning slowly, he looked at what he had tripped over curiously. It was rather pretty, he thought, so he picked it up and stood proudly.

"Imma marry her! That way she won't be sad," Sashi declared, smiling wildly at the two present.

The child had distracted him during the act, but the results were unavoidable. The Queen was dead. Even if he had been paying closer attention, there wasn't much he could have done. Now, sewing her head back on wouldn't save her. He knew that much about normal people, but it was still kind of depressing.
There was something warm and wet on his feet, seeping from the direction of the Queen's headless body. His shock was keeping the disgust down for now and he could hardly hear the child's almost gleeful declarations. He couldn't think of anything so wonderful at this point.
His ears were ringing and it was hard to focus on his surroundings. The man in a hat - something Hatterson - was looking pretty happy too, but he supposed that was expected.
The man's revenge upon the Queen was complete.

The Hatter kept a smile upon his face, feeling the tug of his power once in a while sometimes stronger then others. He continued to look at the headless Queen for a while before looking at the small child.

"Good, maybe you can truly make her happy."

The hatter said with most sincerity, before long however the body of the Queen began to dissolve. So the time had come? Yeah he could feel it all was draining from him. Collapsing on the ground the Hatter smiled the hat vanished from his head. His blue eyes stared at the two before him.

"Killing is quite tiering... of course..."

He whispered.

"I would do it over, and over again..."

He said this with so much pleasure before vanishing from the strange place finally going back home.

"OOOOH! I gotta show daddy!" Sashi squealed, hugging the Queen's head to his chest and jumping up and down excitedly. "I'll see you again, again, again some other day, day, day if you like! Bye-bye, Mr. Kitty!"

Shooting off like a shot, the little candy robot pelted through the forest, heading towards Hopeless. He completely forgot about his errand in Memory for the exotic ingredients for Sato. 'Jam' ran down his legs from the head, which was already starting to change, though into what no one knew. It took him half the amount of time to get home as it did to get to that point in the forest.

He was going to be in big trouble.

He just didn't know it, yet.

They were all gone, he belatedly noticed as he looked around him. There was nothing left to show that they had been there at all except for a cooling pool of blood that was being greedily soaked up by the earth.
His feet felt as if they were glued to the ground and he had no doubt that the blood would be caked onto the bottom of his paws. It was a nasty feeling, but he was having difficult time just moving from the spot where he had stood by as someone was killed.
Faceless realized that he was feeling rather ill.

Amon blinked slowly as he observed his surroundings, mildly bewildered at how he had ended up in a tree. The emptiness of the forest hinted at the fact that he was no longer in Wonderland. His uncle was missing and he could only hope that Nanashi wasn't suffering too much.

Slowly climbing down the tree, the brunette nearly slipped on something sticky near the bottom of the trunk. He made a face as he noticed the smell, which was somewhere between blood and lilacs. What an awkward combination, he thought as he edged around the slick puddle of dark liquid.

Once he was away from it, Amon noticed that there acutally was someone present, but it didn't seem like the guy was mentally present. The lack of blood on his... paws was sign enough that he was not responsible.

Actually, from the shocked look etched on his face, it seemed that he had most likely seen the attack (and most probable) murder. Deciding to take pity on the stitched up kitty, Amon took his paw and tugged, hoping that he wouldn't just fall over but move away from the sticky liquid.

Maybe the guy knew where a town of some sort was.

Faceless hadn't even noticed the child until he was tugging him away from the scene, away from the evidence of death. Such a thing was strangely unsettling, especially considering how often the Doc ended lives in front of him for a kick.
Maybe that was why it affected him the way it did. This time he wasn't even restrained, could have done something, but he failed. He didn't act when he could have.
Idly, he wondered where the child had come from, whether he had seen the death of that poor woman or arrived afterwards. Then again, there was no fixing it now. Faceless had already been over this with himself, so why was he still standing around like a zombie?
Shaking his head, he looked down at the kid, starting in surprise at the eyes of two different colors. He had heard of people having one green and one blue eye, but green and black? That was strange, but then again he was even stranger.
"Yes? What are you doing out here? Where are your parents?"

"I got separated from my parents on accident. Do you know where the closest town is?" The surprising thing about that explanation was that it was completely true.

If only his papa had let them go to the surface earlier, he might have had an amulet to travel between the two planes easily and quickly. Since he didn't, he would have to locate the closest safe house of his family on his own.

Silently while he waited for a reply, Amon went through the list his daddy had made him memorize. 'Sei-Sei in Hunter's Town, kitchen. Koko in Neo-Tokyo, bar. Aya in Goddess Woods, shack. Sato in Hopeless, shop. Nana in Hunter's Town, Zig. Shimi in White City, apartment. Triton with Night, concert. Tenshi in a post office, bell. Neko in Neko-Den, school.'

It all sounded correct, so Amon waited for the response.
