He would be glad when the Wanderers returned and that was more than a little surprising to think, especially considering who it was that thought it.

The Blue Caterpillar as many knew him was glum on the best of days and borderline hostile in his pursuit of solitude on some of the worst. Even half-decent conversationalists were hard to come by and that was just another reason why he preferred being left alone. One of the few had been beheaded by the foolish Queen of Hearts quite a while ago and the only other one that he had come across besides that one was now mad and stuck in Time.

It was a pity about the Water Lily, truly, as she was the clever sort and had drawn a chuckle or two from him in the time he knew her. However, her rebellious streak had been a wide, bold scar across her beauty and it had done her no good in her fight for free love with the Hatter.

Heterogeneous marriage wasn't conversation topic among polite society in the Kingdom of Hearts and that hadn't been too long after the new king had come in, spreading madness like a particularly contagious virus. In other words, the young lovers hardly knew what hit them before it was over.

For one of them, anyway, but for the other, it was only beginning.

Now, all sorts of key beings were missing and strangers wandered the land, drawn in by a couple of Royals, no less. That Clover child was a wild one, but he had a sneaking suspicion that it would be the next Ruler of the Land, which meant that he would have to leave his pleasantly lonely mushroom in its sea of towering grass blades and go forth into the land of Clubs. The easiest way to do that would be to consume a portion of said lovely mushroom and grow to the uncomfortable size that many in this land called normal.

It was unpleasant and irritating to cart his hookah to a place that would not let him enjoy it, so he would have to pack his cigarettes and be somewhat gracious even if he would prefer to use their innards as tubing for his hookah than go without it.

How irritating.

The only good part of traveling was that he would have to pack extra cigarettes that he put together himself. This meant that he harvested more flowers, leaves wrapped in petals all dried up.
The March Hare took the watch and looked at it gloomily: then he dipped it into his cup of tea, and looked at it again: but he could think of nothing better to say than his first remark, 'It was the best butter, you know.'
