The Palace of Hearts, Wonderland.
It was still. There was no other term for it. As Rex moved slowly through the wide halls there was an overwhelming feeling of death...or just nonexistence it was as if time was at a stand still here. It was made up of cold black marbles floors and similar black marble walls but with blooming veins of pink and white through out it. Sconces bearing beautifully wrought torches attempted to chase away the dark but it was in vain, there was nothing that could make the halls feel lively or cheerful again.
The red headed male continued down the hallway, it seemed to bother him very little. He went on until he came upon a door, a golden door with a heart shaped door knob. It was his room, or it was supposed to be. Tradition said he was supposed to share it with the Queen but he was rarely there. He turned the knob and stepped silently inside. He'd come here only to retrieve an old set of earrings he'd rather fancied and only recently remembered.
As he moved inside he glanced around. The room had once been lovely but had been torn to bits in his absence. The Queen's rage had been taken out on the beautiful furnishings. The bed was just a mass of feathers, the chairs over turned and splintered, the armoir lay on its side and the velvet curtains were slashed to rags. He studied these things with great disinterest and simply moved to the armoir to try to find the box he'd stored his old earrings away in.
He hardly seemed to notice a figure curled up on the floor until it shifted slightly and groaned. He glanced up and blinked "Ah, Reine. You're up." The woman turned slowly to look at him. Reine as he called her was a mess. Her lovely dress was hanging halfway off her hips and she lay with her pale pink corset exposed. Reine, The Queen of Hearts if one could believe it. Her dark hair was falling from its neat bun and sticking to her lovely face. Her crown lay across the room, her scepter half wedged beneath the bed. Surely this wasn't the formidable and vicious Queen of Hearts? Master of the Card Guards and law maker of the Kingdom of hearts. At the very least this wa sher body... She was shaking violently and tears were streaming steadily from her puffy red eyes. The king frowned softly, every few years or so Reine managed to struggle out from the control of his rampaging memories and his more irrational emotions. To be honest he'd thought she was the perfect doll to deposit his unsavory past into but it seemed the woman had more fight in here than expected.
"Rex." she breathed, looking pained. He smiled pleasantly at her "Hello love." she looked at him with a mix of disgust and distress. "Rex..." she repeated roughly, her voice croaking as he did. She tried to sit up and the red haired male frowned as she moved towards him. "P-please. Make it stop Rex." she begged weakly, her pupils were wildly dilated. She clutched the feathers from the bed as he merely went back to looking for the jewelry box. "I don't know what you mean Reine." he answered nonchalantly.
"Rex!" she choked crawling toward shim. "For the love of God, stop this...please stop....I can't take this any more. I can't do this, I can't...I can't...." Rex watched her collapse into another sob with utter coolness. "You're being ridiculous Reine, My Love, if you keep making statements like that people might stop taking you seriously as the Queen." "You know what I'm talking about!" she shrieked, her body contorting as if she was fighting herself for control of it. All of her muscles tensed for a moment before she sunk into the decimated rug beneath her, whimpering. "Please, please...Rex...Take it back. You're standing by and letting me kill your own..." she choked and tensed up again.
Rex sniffed and found the jewelry he was looking for before taking a nonchalant step towards the Queen. He reached out and grabbed the lacing of her corset, dragging the limp creature upright. "Really, My Lady, You should learn when to stop talking." She made a pathetic whimper. "Take it back from me, let me control myself, I'm begging you..." she pleaded just above a whisper.
"No."
He answered in a soft purr in her ear before dropping her again. She shook, landing on the floor with a heavy thud. Reine lay there, seizing for a moment as if she was about to go into convulsions before she suddenly went very still. Rex watched and waited as finally she stirred again, sitting up silently. "Reine?" he asked mildly. She suddenly gave a very haughty glare. "Don't you DARE call me that! I'm the QUEEN! I'll have your head REMOVED for such an impropriety!"
Rex smirked, poor Reine had lost the fight once more.
"As you say My Lady Queen." He answered softly, taking the earrings with him as he left, leaving the Queen and Reine to resume their internal battle.
((This might not make a whole lot of sense, if it doesn't just message me and I'll do my best to explain.))
